MTK RD
A smooth riding performance road bike.
Unlike traditional frame building materials (such as steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon), wood uniquely creates a smooth ride. The natural vibration dampening of the wood coupled with a torsionally stiff down tube creates a surprisingly stiff ride with responsive accelerations. All this while the road feels smoothed out below you. Proprietary, custom designed aluminum dropouts integrate with the frame seamlessly to create the clean lines unique to Montauk Hardwood Bikes. Frame weight is under 2kg (4.5 pounds) and allows for a lightweight build. Frame includes an integrated seatpost which is cut to the rider’s specified length at the workshop. Internal cable routing keeps the frame looking clean. The two part finish which seals the wood frame is durable and long lasting, even in tough climates.
Options include: custom geometry or stock geometry, Black Walnut or Ash (other wood species available upon request), 1X11 drivetrain or front derailleur mount for 2X11. See below for more options.
Fill out the order form below to get the process started. Not surprisingly, these frames are very labor intensive which is why it may take up to 12 weeks to build each frame.

Frame Options
Wood:
Black Walnut or Ash. Similar densities, strength, and stiffness properties means it comes down to taste: Black Walnut is a dark colored wood while Ash is a light colored wood.
Drivetrain:
Single front chainring (known as: 1x and is configured as 1x11). Living in a flat area means you probably will enjoy the simplicity of a one-by drivetrain. Learn more.
Also available (but not pictured above) is a standard 2x11 drivetrain with a front derailleur mount.
Frame Sizing
Standard geometry
Choose from these standard geometry sizes:
50cm, 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm.
Custom fit geometry
Whether you have a bike that you currently enjoy riding and want to replicate, you want a new frame fit from a professional bike fitter, or you're experienced enough to know what you want in order to produce a good fit, I can accommodate to any geometry.
Component Options
Compatible with mechanical and electronic disc brake drivetrains. If you want the frame clean and simple with only one internally routed cable (to the rear disc brake), you'll want a wireless electronic groupset like Sram Red eTap. Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 is another great option, but will have wires internally routed through the frame. Likewise, any other electronic or mechanical groupset will have internally routed cables for a clean look.
Customer defined groupset. Use the "Start Your Build" form to spec your components.
